Marc Cucurella has preferred destination amid Man City and Chelsea interest

Marc Cucurella fancies a move to Manchester City over Chelsea, with both clubs interested in the Brighton left-back.

The 23-year-old has attracted plenty of attention after a superb first season in the Premier League with the Seagulls, arriving from Getafe for a fee of around £16m.

The Spaniard made 35 Premier League starts for Graham Potter’s side and now the champions and Chelsea are keen to get hold of his services.

The Athletic report that Cucurella is ‘intent’ on joining Manchester City seeing the champions as the perfect place to take his game to the next level and because of the allure of playing under Pep Guardiola.

The left-back was at Barcelona from 2012-20, coming through the youth ranks at the Catalan giants, and he would relish the chance of working with the Barca legend at City.

Whether Cucurella gets his wish will come down to negotiations over Brighton’s asking price, which is believed to be around £50m.

Even the mega-rich Premier League champions are not keen on paying that amount for the Spain international and will likely give up on a deal if the Seagulls stick to their guns.

With Cucurella keen to make the move to the Etihad, it is likely that a deal can be reached, but Brighton will need to be open to negotiations.

City have already completed their biggest move of the transfer window, bringing in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, while they are also linked with a move for Leeds and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
