Manuel Ugarte to Man United transfer back-up 'wanted' as Scott McTominay alternative

Napoli have made an 'enquiry' about Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as they consider alternative targets to Scott McTominay this summer. That's according to reports from Fabrizio Romano via social media platform X with Manchester United front and centre in another transfer triangle.

Amrabat spent last season on loan at Old Trafford and The Manchester Evening News understands he was among four names being monitored by United in their ongoing search for another defensive midfielder. However, the club chose against taking up the option they had in their previous agreement.

United could have turned his temporary stay into a permanent one for £17million (€20million). Amrabat could still return to the Premier League this summer, but emerging reports from Romano - which also provide an insight into McTominay's pursuit - suggest otherwise.

PSG wantaway Manuel Ugarte is the prime target for United between now and deadline day. Player sales are said to be fundamental to striking up that proposed deal, though, after Ineos spent around £150million on four signings including Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee.

Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro are the other first-team arrivals.

Reports from Romano claim Napoli have 'asked for the conditions' when it comes to a move for Amrabat as they also continue to mull over McTominay, with United thought to be asking for around £30million. They have rejected previous offers from Fulham for their Scotland international.
