'Don't score again' - Man United ace Bruno Fernandes sends Scott McTominay message after reunion

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes jokingly warned Scott McTominay not to score against him on his birthday again after the pair reunited in the Nations League on Sunday evening.

McTominay left United on deadline day as the Reds made the difficult decision to part ways with their academy graduate. The 27-year-old was sold as the club looked to balance the books in their bid to bring in a defensive midfielder.

With McTominay sent to Napoli, Erik ten Hag had the wiggle room on the wage bill to bring Manuel Ugarte in from PSG. While the Dutchman was clearly happy with the purchase, he did offer regret that it came at the expense of McTominay.

"I'm very happy for him and for us, but it's mixed [feelings] because I would have preferred not to lose him," Ten Hag said when asked about McTominay's exit. "He has Manchester United in his veins.

"He was so important for our team, he was at Manchester United for over 22 years. But unfortunately, it's the rules.

"You have to discuss the rules to do sales and obviously homegrown players, academy players, bring more value. It's not the right thing to do but for everyone, for all parts, it's a good deal.

"For Scott, he is happy with it. Of course, for Napoli, a very good player but also for us."

There was an outpouring of affection for McTominay from both fans and his teammates following his exit but fortunately for Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, they were able to reunite with the midfielder almost immediately. In fact, the entire clash between Portugal and Scotland was dominated by United links.
