Manuel Ugarte has explained why he'll be Kobbie Mainoo's dream midfield partner at Man United

Manuel Ugarte looks set to become Manchester United’s fifth signing of the summer, but there are still questions over whether he will be their last.

Earlier this week, United indicated that they did not envisage hooking in another recruit beyond Ugarte’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain but football moves quickly, especially in the final week of a transfer window.

Jadon Sancho is apparently of interest to Chelsea while United have opened primitive discussions over Raheem Sterling, exiled from Enzo Maresca’s plans. Manchester Evening News sources suggest that a swap deal would only occur should Juventus talks over Sancho fall through.

Meanwhile, United are likely to see two other players leave before Friday's transfer deadline. Hannibal Mejbri is being closely linked with Burnley while Scott McTominay seems destined for Napoli.

Like they do with England international Sterling, United fans know - or knew - what to expect from McTominay and Hannibal when it comes to playing style. While both are grass-covering assets, the former is more roundly fine-tuned than his rough-and-tumble colleague.

Perhaps fewer fans know what to expect from Ugarte, other than their hopes of him being a level up from the aforementioned midfield duo. Speaking to club media last year, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder gave an insight into his mindset.

“Often when I win the ball back, I’m happy,” he explained. “But as the play goes on, I start hoping for a goal. I say to myself I want it to be a goal.”

This depicts an all-rounder of a midfielder who can provide more of a platform for Kobbie Mainoo than Casemiro.
