Manuel Neuer pulled off a truly miraculous save in Germany 5-2 Italy - it's just mind-boggling

Germany crushed Italy in their UEFA Nations League clash in Mönchengladbach on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan, Thomas Muller and Timo Werner (2) gave Hansi Flick’s side a resounding five-goal lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Germany took their foot off the gas late on and the Euro 2020 victors made the scoreline slightly more respectable as they managed to score two late goals.

Germany wouldn’t have cared too much, though, as they clinched a dominant 5-2 win.

Manuel Neuer is now 36 years old but he remains one of the very best goalkeepers in the world.

And he managed to pull off a miraculous save in his nation’s victory over Italy.

In the 53rd minute, Neuer was wrong footed after Gianluca Caprari’s shot took a heavy deflection.

The ball fell to Nicolo Barella and it looked almost inevitable that he would put the ball into the net.

But Neuer had other ideas.

The German produced a quite ridiculous save to claw the ball off the line and away to safety.

It was a truly incredible save and you can view it below…

With all respect, I never saw a better goalkeeper than Neuer pic.twitter.com/Nj355hfoHK

Absolutely sensational.

Even if it had gone in, the goal would have been ruled out as Barella was standing in an offside position. But Neuer wasn’t to know that. You can’t take any credit away from what was a miraculous save.

You can view some reaction to his heroics below…

That victory was Germany’s first in League 1, Group C.

They now have six points from their opening four games and have leapfrogged Italy into second.

Flick’s side are one-point behind Hungary in first. Marco Rossi’s side achieved one of the best results in their history
