Manuel Akanji sends message to Arsenal players after Man City victory

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji believes that Wednesday night's victory over Arsenal will 'do something in the heads' of the north London club's players.

City secured the win at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland. Bukayo Saka's penalty just before half-time had brought the game back into the balance but the Blues were able to demonstrate why they are defending champions.

Discussing the importance of the result, Akanji claimed that the victory could be a psychological blow for the Gunners. He told Sky Sports: "We knew it was a really big game, I don't think it would have been over but still it was a massive win for us.

"Also, it does something, probably, in the heads of the Arsenal players. But, in the end, we can only focus on ourselves.

"That is what we did yesterday [Wednesday], we showed a good performance. It wasn't an easy game but I am really happy that we got out with the win."

When asked what the mood is like in the dressing room after such an important three points, Akanji claimed that the team had a few meetings where footballing matters were discussed. He added: "We have talked about a couple of things but it was not only about performance.

"We had meetings, just us players, and we talked about a couple of things. But, I think also right now we are really happy to be in that position and you can also feel the mood in the locker room has been really well and I hope we can start a winning streak now and then it can only get better."

City have the opportunity to continue their winning run on Saturday when they travel to Nottingham Forest in a 3pm kick-off.
