Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird makes admission about Bournemouth promotion

Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird has admitted that he experienced feeling a different kind of pressure after helping Bournemouth clinch promotion back to the Premier League last week.

The Cherries — who were relegated from the top-flight at the end of the 2019/20 campaign — sealed their return to the promised land thanks to a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest last Tuesday. The two sides met at the Vitality Stadium in their penultimate match of the season knowing that a Bournemouth win would see them promoted and condemn Forest to a place in the play-offs.

Substitute Kieffer Moore netted the only goal of the game, finishing a smart free-kick routine. It was enough to seal maximum points for Scott Parker's side and secure automatic promotion with a game to spare.

For United right-back Laird, who joined the Cherries on loan in January after his temporary stint at Swansea City was cut short, it was a hugely beneficial experience — even if he did not play as often as he would have liked. He made just six appearances for the Vitality Stadium outfit and was an unused substitute against Forest.

"I'm a young lad, I'm only 20 years old," Laird told Bournemouth's club website. "Being here and experiencing a promotion, being in a Championship side, working for promotion, there's a lot of pressure, a lot of things that come with it.

"But it's all happy, happy feelings and we're just going to keep doing what we do. I think it’s been very easy to see our feelings about promotion, we're all buzzing. We stuck to our task the whole season."
