Manchester United youngster completes swift transfer after rejecting contract

Omari Forson has joined Monza after rejecting a new deal at Manchester United.

The 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut as a substitute in the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan in January, made seven senior appearances during the 2023/24 season. He made his first start in the Premier League against Fulham and was a regular in the squad throughout the second-half of the campaign.

With his contract due to expire at the end of June, Forson was named in United's retained list for next season and offered a new deal. The Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday morning that the teenager has turned down those fresh terms with Serie A side Monza now announcing the signing of Forson, who has signed a contract until 2028.

Although he is set to join on a free transfer, United will be due compensation from Monza. His choice of destination has come as a surprise, but Forson should get regular game time next term. Monza finished 12th in Serie A, although it could have been if they didn't end the season without a win in nine matches.

Forson moved to United from Tottenham in 2019 and progressed through the youth system before being integrated into the first-team. He appeared on the club's pre-season tour of the United States last summer but had to wait six months before being handed his first senior appearance.
