Manchester United welcome young trialist defender

Salford City defender Jacob Lara trialled for Manchester United's Under-18s against Everton on Tuesday evening.

Lara, 18, started for Travis Binnion's U18 side at Carrington as they drew 1-1 with Everton in a tight game in the Premier League North.

Sam Mather scored the only goal for United and trialist Lara, who was unnamed on the club's website, played the full 90 minutes. The youngster made a good number of blocks throughout the match and a summer move to United is possible.

The U18s have just one game remaining this season and they'll reoppose Everton on Saturday 6 May, which Lara could feature in.

After the trial period, the club will make a decision on Lara and decide whether to offer the player terms to join the academy.

Lara temporarily joined Stalybridge Celtic on work experience from the Class of '92 owned Salford earlier this year. He has featured regularly in the EFL Youth Alliance NW this term and his move to Stalybridge was his first experience of senior football.

The U18s sit third in the Premier League North and they are guaranteed to finish in that position, regardless of their result this weekend. Sunderland have finished second and Manchester City have been crowned as the league winners.
