United maintained their encouraging start to the new calendar year with a 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, ensuring they built on the 2-2 draw with Liverpool a week earlier.

After two such demanding away games, United return to more familiar surroundings to take on a Southampton side that is rooted to the foot of the Premier League table. They have just six points to their name having won just once in the league this term.

As a result, United are overwhelming favourites to build on their recent positive results and maintain the upward trajectory they currently find themselves on. However, United are four league games without a win and have lost each of their last three home games.

Regarding the team news, Diogo Dalot will miss out through suspension and the likes of Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount remain sidelined.
