Manchester United vs Brentford LIVE highlights and reaction as Marcus Rashford scores winner

Manchester United must respond against Brentford at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

United returned from the international break with a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park, but the scoreline arguably flattered the terrible performance, which Erik ten Hag put down to the opposition being 'more determined'.

The Reds failed to threaten Newcastle throughout that contest and they need to bounce back against Brentford, who won the reverse fixture 4-0 in August after ruthlessly putting Ten Hag's side to the sword in the first half.

A positive result against Brentford is also required because the 'top four race' has suddenly been blown open. United looked almost certain to finish in third position this season, but they've now slipped down to fifth in the table.

In regards to team news, Jadon Sancho replaces Wout Weghorst. Christian Eriksen has returned to training this week but this game has come too soon for him, although Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on the bench after recovering from a bout of sickness.

David de Gea

Pinged pass almost played Jadon Sancho in but another played United into trouble. Ivan Toney almost scored from a De Gea goal kick but he vitally denied Kevin Schade. 6

Diogo Dalot

Had an iffy start but his late emergence on the right led to United's first good opening. United could have maximised his forward runs more. 6

Raphael Varane

Had little hassle from Ivan Toney in a tame first half from Brentford but was slow to react when Schade nipped in to get the ball for his one-on-one. 6
