Manchester United USA tour 2023: What we know so far amid Wrexham friendly claim

Manchester United's preparations for next season are well underway, and the club's summer pre-season plans are becoming clearer.

United visited Thailand and Australia during their first pre-season tour under the management of Erik ten Hag. That trip was their first for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the club will return to the United States of America this summer for the first since 2018. United were set to tour the country in 2020 before the pandemic put pay to those plans.

This will be the eighth time the club have visited America over the last two decades. United have a sizeable fanbase in the country, and the climate during the summer months is considered perfect for training.

Details about the opposition United could face and the locations they may visit are also starting to emerge. The club are expected to face Wrexham in San Diego on July 26.

The Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned club has confirmed that their 'previously publicised' plans to tour the country are at an advanced stage amid reporting from The Telegraph that they will play United, as well as another Premier League club, Chelsea. An official statement from the Welsh club, who were the subject of the Disney+ documentary series, 'Welcome to Wrexham', adds that the plans are 'not as yet finalised'.

Jose Mourinho was United's manager the last time they visited the country, in what would be his final pre-season at the club. Friendly matches were played in Los Angeles, Miami, Michigan, Phoenix and Santa Clara.
