Manchester United unsung hero could hold the key against Tottenham

If there is one match this season that should give Manchester United hope about their future under Erik ten Hag, it is their last meeting with Tottenham.

United's 2-0 win back in October is still the benchmark for their performances this season, in what was a complete display of utter dominance.

A key part of United's win was the performance of Fred in midfield, who scored the opening goal of the game and won the Man of the Match award for his incredible display.

The Brazilian shone as part of a midfield axis alongside compatriot Casemiro, with Bruno Fernandes grabbing the other goal of the game from the attacking midfield berth.

It was only Fred's second start since the humiliating defeat to Brentford in the second match of the season, as Ten Hag kept faith in the midfielder despite having Scott McTominay back from suspension and Christian Eriksen available again after an illness.

His faith was rewarded, as the 30-year-old welcomed the freedom he was given playing alongside Casemiro and bombed forward at every opportunity.

Just as important, though, was the energy he brought to the midfield, with Fred's intense pressing helping to disrupt the opposition and help his side assert their dominance in the match.
