Manchester United trigger release clause to sign Maya Le Tissier from Brighton

Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Maya Le Tissier after meeting her release clause, Telegraph Sport understands.

Multiple sources have confirmed the fee to be in the region of £50,000 - £60,000 for the 20-year-old to make the move from the south coast to Manchester and the relevant paper is on the verge of being concluded.

The Guernsey-born England Under-23 international is widely seen as one of the brightest young talents in the Women's Super League and she has captained her country at various youth levels. She has already revealed she is leaving the Sussex outfit, after four years with Hope Powell's side.

Telegraph Sport can also reveal that Manchester United's England midfielder Katie Zelem is set to sign a new two-year contract with the club.

That will extend Zelem's stay to at least six years with the team, with the former WSL title winner with Liverpool having been one of Manchester United's first signings when they re-formed a senior women's side in 2018. Zelem helped them win an immediate promotion to the top flight and has been a key part of the team since.

The 26-year-old was part of England's provisional squad of 28 ahead of this summer's Euros but narrowly missed out on the final 23 along with former skipper Steph Houghton.

Both those signatures will provide a boost for Manchester United fans, days after the club captured the signings of England Under-19 midfielder Grace Clinton from Everton and former Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur striker Rachel Williams.
