Manchester United transfer news RECAP Man Utd fixture news and Chelsea talks for Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have just five days left before their Premier League season will get underway against Brighton and Hove Albion.

It also looks increasingly likely that Erik ten Hag will go into the campaign with the tools already at his disposal, with no end to the Frenkie de Jong saga in sight.

United did make one new addition on Tuesday, however, as former England international Tom Huddlestone was appointed as a player-coach at academy level.

Meanwhile, Dean Henderson has voiced his frustration over his lack of playing time last season. He told talkSPORT: "I turned so many good loans down last summer for that reason [being promised the No.1 spot], and they wouldn't let me go," he revealed. "It was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal really, at my age. I was fuming."

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT: Was Dean Henderson wrong to speak out about United? Have your say here.

A recap of the day's United news.

Erik ten Hag has no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo can fit into his Manchester United side but he must get back to full match fitness first.

Ronaldo had a disrupted pre-season as he didn't travel with the rest of Ten Hag's squad on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons. Instead, he remained in Portugal and trained alone.

In Ronaldo's absence, Anthony Martial stepped up to lead the line and the Frenchman put in several impressive displays as he looked to bounce back from his disastrous last campaign at United and Sevilla. He scored three times and looks to have secured his spot as the spearhead of the attack for the start of the season.
