Manchester United transfer news LIVE with Lisandro Martinez and Jeremie Frimpong latest
Manchester United have been dealt a major blow with news coming through that Lisandro Martinez will be out for the rest of this season. Martinez was stretchered off against Sevilla on Thursday night and the centre-back has fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot.
It comes as part of a double setback with first choice partner Raphael Varane - who also had to be replaced during that game - set to be missing for the next few weeks. United have concerns over eight senior players before their Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon at the City Ground.
With one eye on the summer transfer window, meanwhile, United want to make at least two major signings. England captain Harry Kane is their prime target in the search for a new striker amid links with other potential recruits such as Frenkie de Jong and Jeremie Frimpong.
Frimpong was pressed on his Bayer Leverkusen future this week. However, the Netherlands defender offered up a dead-batted response to those questions as the search goes on for players.
