Manchester United transfer news live Sir Jim Ratcliffe latest as Everton make Hannibal Mejbri offer

New Year’s resolutions are sometimes belittled but now would be a good time for Manchester United to make one.

After six months of positivity and optimism, the only ray of light in the second half of 2023 was Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival. But while a new leaf was somewhat turned over off the pitch, the year ended in a familiar tale for United fans.

A 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest categorised the previous 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa as yet another false dawn with many supporters wanting January reinforcements. United are tentative about spending this money amid Financial Fair Play concerns but the loan market may be used.

Timo Werner will not be coming to Old Trafford as he nears a move to Tottenham while the jury is still out on the links with Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho is closing in on a return to Borussia Dortmund on loan, with just the details to sort out.

His exit would perhaps mark a step in the right direction in terms of resetting club culture amid his fall out with Erik ten Hag, but what matters most this week is an FA Cup win over League One Wigan Athletic tomorrow.

Keep tabs on all the latest United news below.

Timo Werner is set to join Tottenham this winter, according to The Athletic.

United are currently short of attacking firepower and Werner has been a named linked to the club, but he's now set to join Spurs on a loan with an option to buy.

Werner previously played for Chelsea before he re-signed for RB Leipzig following his mixed spell in London.

The option to buy is believed to be in the region of €15-20m.

The youngster is set to leave on loan for the remainder of the season.
