Manchester United will today step up preparations for Saturday's Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Ralf Rangnick's side will not have long to dwell on Tuesday's disappointing result but the pressure is now even higher on them to get back to winning ways against a dangerous Saints side.

It's been a bad restart following the winter break for United, as they were shockingly knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Middlesbrough on Friday before being held to a 1-1 draw by relegation strugglers Burnley on Tuesday.

The result meant West Ham leapfrogged them back into fourth spot and also opened the door for Arsenal and Spurs to draw level on points in their midweek fixtures.

With Champions League qualification vital ahead of a massive summer, a win at the weekend is crucial.

Meanwhile, Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka rejected a deadline day loan move to Manchester United.

United were prepared to accept Dubravka in exchange for Dean Henderson, whom Newcastle explored the possibility of signing on loan until the end of the season.

However, the goalkeeper declined the opportunity to join United as back-up to David de Gea. Dubravka started in Newcastle's 3-1 win over Everton on Tuesday night.

Ralf Rangnick hasn't been shy about telling Paul Pogba how good he is since taking over as Manchester United manager, but when he handed him a return to the side on Friday he also told him he needed to earn the right to become a regular.
