Manchester United transfer news LIVE plus Erik ten Hag next Man Utd manager update

Plans for next season are starting to gather pace at Manchester United amid reports suggesting they are ready to appoint Erik ten Hag as their permanent manager. As revealed by Manchester Evening News, the Dutch coach was identified as a preferred candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis.

Ajax coach Ten Hag spoke with key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom and appears to have edged out Mauricio Pochettino despite concerns the Dutchman was splitting opinion in the United dressing room. That report was also brought to you by the Manchester Evening News.

It is understood the Eredivisie side expect ten Hag to touch down in the Premier League for next season.

Beyond the dugout, United continue to have one eye on the summer window. Both incomings and outgoings are anticipated with France international Paul Pogba and England forward Jesse Lingard two players now into the final months of their contract.

Ajax expect Erik ten Hag to become the next permanent United manager.

Manchester Evening News revealed three weeks ago ten Hag was the preferred candidate to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer and the MEN also reported in January that the Premier League side were aiming to settle on their next manager before the end of this season.

The 52-year-old was interviewed by United two weeks ago and is set to become the club's second Dutch manager, having seen off competition from Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino. United insist that they have not secured a 'done deal' with any manager.
