Manchester United transfer news LIVE Burnley vs Man Utd reaction plus injury latest

Manchester United are back to winning ways after Bruno Fernandes' superb strike handed Erik ten Hag's side all three points against Burnley.

United headed to Turf Moor having lost all of their last three outings, with the 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich seeing them ship three goals or more in three consecutive games for the first time since 1978.

Vincent Kompany's side caused United some problems throughout the 90 minutes, but it was a moment of class that separated the two teams as Fernandes smashed home a stunning volley after Jonny Evans had picked out his captain with a brilliant ball over the home side's back line.

A clean sheet for Andre Onana added yet another positive to a solid night's work for United. They now have nine points from their opening six Premier League outings.

Their attention will now turn to their Carabao Cup defence as they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Ten Hag will hope to welcome back some of his injured stars next week, with Mason Mount and Lisandro Martinez both not travelling yesterday and Sergio Reguilon being taken off in the second half having been ill in the build-up to the game.

Having played alongside each other at United, you'd possibly have expected Rio Ferdinand to sugar-coat his verdict on Jonny Evans - he did anything but.

He suggested opposition players would be licking their lips at the sight of Evans' name on the United teamsheet - it's fair to say his former teammate had the last laugh after he produced a stunning assist for Bruno Fernandes to score the winner.
