Manchester United transfer news LIVE Alexis Mac Allister 'boost' plus Sabitzer injury reaction

Manchester United were dealt a blow yesterday when Marcel Sabitzer was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Reds and Bayern are now in talks over how best to manage his rehabilitation with his loan due to end next month. No decision has yet been made about a permanent switch.

In other transfer news, United have reportedly been handed a boost in the race for Alexis Mac Allister. Reports suggest the midfielder will only move to a side in the Champions League next season having been linked with Liverpool and United among others.

Meanwhile, United remain two wins away from a guaranteed top-four finish in the Premier League after Liverpool made it seven wins in a row away to Leicester last night.

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT: Should United sign Sabitzer permanently? Have your say here.

Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are expected to be among the Manchester United players released in the summer.

Jones, 31, has started two games in three years due to a knee problem while fellow centre-back Tuanzebe, 25, has not played for United since the Europa League final in 2021.

Jones has not trained all season and was last visible in a session at Carrington on May 20. He has started 16 times since signing a new contract in February 2019 and was substituted at half-time in five of them.

Tuanzebe suffered another injury-plagued year in 2022 and has just finished a four-month loan with Stoke City in the Championship, where he played only five times. Tuanzebe's brother and representative, Dimitri, was at United's Carrington training complex last month to seek clarification on his future.
