Manchester United transfer news LIVE Takeover latest as United 'prepare' Jordan Pickford bid

Manchester United will have ambitions of stepping up their summer recruitment drive this week after a relatively quiet start to the transfer window.

The window officially opened for business last Wednesday, signalling the beginning of manager Erik ten Hag's third transfer window since taking charge at Old Trafford. The Dutchman has ambitions of upgrading his squad this summer in a handful of areas but ongoing uncertainty with the takeover situation means his hopes of doing so could prove to be problematic.

It is currently unclear what the size of Ten Hag's transfer kitty is, meaning supporters are becoming anxious about what the club might actually be capable of in the window. United have prioritised the signing of a striker and also want to add both a goalkeeper and a central-midfielder to their ranks as a minimum.

Goalkeeper David de Gea is now increasingly likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month, meaning United are set to be on the hunt for a first choice goalkeeper instead of a back-up option. They have been heavily linked with Inter Milan's Andre Onana over the past week or so.

Meanwhile, Old Trafford will play host to England's men's team for the first time since February 2007 this evening. The Three Lions take on North Macedonia in the fourth 2024 European Championship qualifier, kick-off 7:45pm.

Today's big talking point: How many strikers should United aim to sign this summer? Have your say here.
