Manchester United transfer news LIVE Barcelona highlights and reaction plus takeover latest

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Barcelona in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday night thanks to a Marcus Rashford strike and an own-goal.

The Catalan giants took the lead in the 50th minute through Marcos Alonso, but the Reds responded well and levelled proceedings just two minutes later through Rashford. The away side then went 2-1 up when Jules Kounde put the ball into his own net, but Raphinha made it 2-2 with 14 minutes left on the clock.

Erik ten Hag's side know that they will progress to the next round of the competition with a win in the second leg at Old Trafford next Thursday. Xavi's men will be without midfielder Gavi next week after he picked up his third booking of the season in Europe.

Off the pitch, United have been linked with a move for Chelsea and England ace Mason Mount, with reports suggesting that the midfielder is reluctant to commit to a long-term deal. It is also thought that the 24-year-old is looking for an increase on his current wages.

Elsewhere, today is the 'soft deadline' for investors to submit bids for United, with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, expected to make a bid of more than £4bn for the club.
