Manchester United transfer news LIVE Cristiano Ronaldo and Frenkie de Jong to Man Utd updates

Manchester United will be back at Carrington today following their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

It is not yet whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be joining the United squad for training on Tuesday, having missed the pre-season tour and all training sessions due to 'family reasons'. Reports have suggested that Ronaldo will be back in Manchester today to have discussions with Erik ten Hag about his future.

Elsewhere, the Frenkie de Jong transfer saga continues to rumble on. Over the weekend, De Jong was lined up in central defence for Barcelona in their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.

His manager, Xavi, said post-match that he would like to see De Jong remain at the club as he is a 'key player'. He also justified his choice to play him at centre-back as he believes De Jong is a good distributor of the ball.

Ruben Amorim has broken silence on suggestions Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Sporting Lisbon.

Speculation over Ronaldo and his Manchester United future remains at fever pitch, while the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has yet to report back to pre-season training. He did not board the plane to Thailand and Australia with Erik ten Hag and his teammates due to a pressing family matter.

United formally accepted the reason for his absence. However, the 37-year-old has also expressed a desire to leave and several clubs have been linked with his high-profile signature.
