Manchester United transfer decision could be good news for former Barcelona starlet

There could be a youthful look to the Manchester United squad when they begin their pre-season duties next month.

One of the key reasons United appointed Erik ten Hag a year ago was because of his proven track record for nurturing young talent, a cornerstone of their identity as a club.

Ten Hag has already overseen the development of Alejandro Garnacho during his debut season and given debuts to two promising teenagers in the shape of Charlie McNeill and Kobbie Mainoo.

He has taken on more responsibility in the academy since his appointment, having felt the U21s were 'isolated' before his arrival. He now takes an active role in deciding which youngsters train with the first team, and there is more cooperation between the different departments, just as he had at Ajax.

It will be interesting to see which youngsters are next to get their chance, and the Dutch manager might have already dropped a hint towards that with his latest transfer decision.

United were initially in the market to sign a new right-back this summer, and while it remains a long-term interest, it is not believed to be as urgent as it once was.

There is every chance United will finish the summer with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot still at the club, and they will have equal opportunity to secure a regular starting role before it is looked at again in a year's time.

Ten Hag is still eager to add another attack-minded full-back to his senior side eventually, but the delay in signing another right-back could well be a sliding door moment in the career of Marc Jurado.
