Manchester United top Premier League revenue table with Man City lowest among top six

Manchester United generated the most match day revenue in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season, according to a collated figures report.

The Reds experienced a poor Premier League that year, ending up sixth some 35 points off champions Manchester City. However, despite the contrasting fortunes of each club, it was United who raked in the most cash on match days.

United earned £111million in total, despite the turmoil on the pitch as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was replaced by interim boss Ralf Rangnick. Financial expert Swiss Ramble puts that return as the best in England for the period.

Meanwhile, City brought in less than half of United’s figure. The report states the Blues amassed £54m from match day income, the lowest in the top six.

Tottenham Hotspur and their state-of-the-art stadium chalked up £106m, the second best in the country, while Liverpool were some way behind in third on £87m. Arsenal were fourth on £79, while Chelsea were fifth at £69m.

The 2021/22 season was the first full campaign where fans were allowed back to fill stadia to capacity following the Covid pandemic. The three relegated sides that year - Norwich, Burnley and Watford - were among the four lowest clubs to generate income at £11m or under, Brentford the other club in that cohort.

According to Forbes, United rank as the second-most valuable club in the world behind Real Madrid. City’s worldwide stature is growing but United have long had a huge worldwide following that out-trumps any other British club.
