Manchester United ‘to battle Liverpool’ for Gavi and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will have to fend off competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich if they are to land 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi next summer, reports claim.

The La Masia academy product only made his senior debut 12 months ago but has already racked up 51 appearances for the Spanish giants, in addition to 10 international caps. The teenager is hot property in Europe right now with just a year left on his contract.

Despite his age, Gavi has become an integral part of Xavi’s system at the Nou Camp. The youngster operates as a linchpin in midfield but also chipped in with two goals and six assists last season.

Bild (via the Daily Mail ) claims Bayern Munich are the latest team to register an interest in the playmaker. Gavi is unsure about signing a new deal at Barcelona, so the Bundesliga champions, Liverpool and United are expected to make a move in 2023.

Speaking to L'Esportiu, Barcelona president Joan Laporta says he is bemused by Gavi's stance. "Gavi's agent has the new contract proposal on the table for a long time but he has not accepted yet,” he explained.

“'We don't understand... I don't like the situation. I encourage them to accept it as soon as possible, because it also helps us plan.” No club has yet tabled a bid for the talent.

Meanwhile, El Nacional claims Marco Asensio was offered to United but Erik ten Hag did not want him. The attacker is said to have had offers from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle as well as Atletico Madrid, but the player snubbed all three opportunities.

Ten Hag instead settled for £85m signing Antony, who scored on his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
