Manchester United takeover conclusion won't solve major Erik ten Hag problem

After months of being stuck in limbo, the Manchester United takeover saga appears to be finally heading towards a conclusion.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe seems set to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the Old Trafford outfit following Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's decision to drop out of the running over the weekend. It means Sir Jim's bid could be days away from being ratified with United's board set to meet in the coming days to discuss the deal.

While some fans had hoped Sheikh Jassim's bid would be successful, it means there will at least be some sense of relief that the protracted process will be coming to a close. Results on the pitch so far this season have been below expectation and so full focus can now return towards results improving.

But, should the views of a number of former United stars be anything to go by, the Reds cannot blame the takeover distractions for recent performances. Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole previously shared their belief that the current crop of players should be able to focus on their football despite the noise surrounding the takeover.

Yorke previously told the Manchester Evening News: "I can’t imagine the players getting caught up in that too much as they’re more focused on playing football and winning matches.

"A lot of people are angry that the Glazers aren’t selling the club, but if you asked the players about the takeover and whether it’s going to affect results, they’ll say no. I don’t think they give two monkeys about what the Glazers are doing right now.
