Manchester United Supporters' Trust respond to ambitious Old Trafford announcement

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust has welcomed the creation of a task force to explore options for regenerating Old Trafford, describing the plans as a 'real signal of ambition'.

It was announced on Friday afternoon that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has enlisted Lord Sebastian Coe and Gary Neville to join a task force to explore options for regenerating Old Trafford. The ambition is for United to 'play in one of the best stadiums in the world' and after analysing whether to redevelop or build a new ground on the adjacent club-owned lad, Ratcliffe is leaning toward building a new stadium to 'transform the fan experience and the surrounding community'.

Ratcliffe said: "The north-west of England has a greater concentration of major football clubs than anywhere else in the world, yet we don’t have a stadium on the scale of Wembley, the Camp Nou or Bernabéu. We will not be able to change that on our own, which is why this task force is so important to help us seize this once-in-a-century opportunity.”

MUST will be involved in the task force and they welcomed the ambitious plans, although they also warned deciding whether to revamp or rebuild is an emotive issue. They said: "Today, the club has announced a new task force to consider the options for the future of Old Trafford and its surroundings, which MUST has been invited to join to represent fans views and interests.
