Manchester United suffer another injury worry as defensive problems mount

Manchester United's injury problems continued to mount after Will Fish was taken off on a stretcher during their pre-season friendly with Liverpool.

The youngster came on as a half-time substitute alongside Rhys Bennett, with Erik ten Hag replacing both of his starting centre-backs at the break.

United were rocked by the news that new signing Leny Yoro would be out for three months with an injury picked up against Arsenal in the opening game of their tour of the United States.

The club are open to signing another centre-back this summer despite the £58.9m spent on Yoro, and their need now looks to be even greater after Fish was taken off with an injury less than 30 minutes after coming on against Liverpool.

It was feared Fish could miss the pre-season tour after picking up a knock in the friendly against Rosenborg. The youngster recovered in time to be named in the United squad, though his final appearance of the tour was cut short after suffering a blow to the ankle.

Fish was carried off the pitch on a stretcher with his right leg strapped in a protective boot, with Erik ten Hag approaching the centre-back to check on him following the injury.
