Manchester United still have work to do to reach Roy Keane's target for the Reds this season.

United started the campaign poorly with defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and infamously Brentford where Erik ten Hag's men were 4-0 down before half time. This loss left supporters fearing the worst and it looked like United were set for another season of disappointment.

What was not expected was the quick recovery that would unfold. United would win the next four Premier League matches including notable success against Liverpool and Arsenal.

Ahead of the big kick off, Keane was asked to define a good season for his former club and should United want to reach it they will have to do more. "Success for Man United has to be getting in the top-four," he told Sky Sports.

"For all their problems they still have talent. I think if they get players in over the next few weeks, ask me [again] come the end of the month.

"At this moment in time you'd say they aren't one of the favourites for the top-four, but if they can get a couple of deals done that they're after, United have enough in their locker with a new manager in trying to get the feel-good factor back at the club. Changing the culture, which isn't a quick fix, then you think Man United can compete, of course they can."

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League, one point behind fourth-place Brighton. The Seagulls lost their head coach Graham Potter to Chelsea just over a week ago and have not played since.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep up their momentum without Potter behind the wheel. The Reds' next match will be on Sunday, October 2 when they travel the short distance to Manchester City for the derby.
