Manchester United star Amad responds to Sunderland return reports

Manchester United youngster Amad has hinted he would be open to returning to Sunderland following the culmination of his loan spell.

The 20-year-old struggled at the Stadium of Light initially. He did not score in his first eight league appearances and was demoted to their U21s in October.

But the Ivorian improved his form and became a vital player for Tony Mowbray. He would register 14 goals and four assists across the course of the season which ended with the Black Cats reaching the play-offs.

Despite ending in defeat to eventual playoff winners Luton Town, Amad looked like he had not closed the door on a return to the North East earlier this month. Taking to Instagram, the forward posted: "One day we will meet again," a message which was understood to be aimed at Sunderland.

Now, Amad appears to have dropped his biggest hint yet about him returning to the Championship club. Sunderland fan account Safc.till.i.die posted a report on Instagram that read: "Amad is willing to go back to Sunderland if boss Tony Mowbray stays." In the comments section below, Amad responded with a handshake emoji that hints he would be open to a return.

MEN Sport understands Erik ten Hag has invited Amad to attend next weekend's FA Cup final with Manchester City and is open to adding him to the squad next season. The Ivorian is thought to have a cup final suit waiting for him in his measurements.
