Manchester United set to miss out on millions that could have boosted summer transfer budget

Manchester United look set to miss out on the prospect of a potential cash injection this summer as Wilfried Zaha closes in on an exit from Crystal Palace.

The winger, who joined United from Palace back in 2013, is poised to leave the club on a free transfer after failing to put pen to paper on a new contract. His current deal expires today (Friday, June 30), meaning he will be available on a free transfer as soon as tomorrow.

Palace have reportedly done everything within their power to try and convince the 30-year-old to stay at the club, including the offer of a £200,000-a-week contract. However, Zaha, who failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, has failed to accept the enterprising offer.

It is understood that Zaha, who will turn 31 in November, wants to test himself elsewhere. He has reportedly been presented with offers from all corners of the globe, including the opportunity to join fellow former United player Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia who continue to attract some of the game's most famous faces.

Italian club Lazio have also been heavily linked with his signature, as have a collection of Premier League clubs. Zaha, who is reportedly keen to test himself in the Champions League, returned to Palace in 2015, just two years after he joined United in a deal that was worth up to £15million.

Palace, at the time of re-signing Zaha, paid just £6m, but United did insert a 25 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that saw the winger return to the capital. Zaha has come close to leaving Palace on several occasions over the last eight years, meaning the Reds have always been within touching distance of inheriting a windfall.

But now that he
