Manchester United settle on Frenkie de Jong plan and other transfer rumours

Manchester United will continue to pursue Frenkie de Jong during future transfer windows as the 11pm deadline prepares to slam shut on Thursday night. De Jong, 25, remains at Barcelona after moves to snap-up the playmaker fell by the wayside despite talks dating back three months.

United initially wanted Declan Rice and, subsequently, focused on De Jong when Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager. However, there have been well-documented stumbling blocks when it comes to that would-be signing and Casemiro, 30, took centre stage following his £60million switch from Real Madrid.

His arrival was the first central midfield recruit sanctioned by United in four years. However, while Casemiro fixes one problem for Ten Hag this season, Goal have addressed that situation and claim United will revive their pursuit for Netherlands player De Jong this January and during future windows.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph report that despite Cristiano Ronaldo's attempts to leave United this summer, no club made an official move for the player. Ten Hag confirmed to the press that Ronaldo is staying at Old Trafford this transfer window and now the Dutchman will have to find a way to successfully integrate him into his side for the remainder of the season.

The future of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had been hotly debated all summer and now it appears that some clarity has finally been offered. Whether it was through a lack of time, available options or United's desire to keep Ronaldo at the club that will see the Portuguese international remain as a Red this summer, is still uncertain.
