Manchester United set to face Wrexham in San Diego pre-season friendly

Manchester United are set to face Wrexham as part of their pre-season tour of the United states this summer.

United are set to cross the pond this summer for the first time since 2018, having toured Thailand and Australia during Erik ten Hag's first pre-season last year. The Reds have toured the US eight times in the last 20 years and have a strong American fanbase, while the club believe it is an ideal climate to train players.

Who exactly they will play during the tour has not yet been confirmed, but Wrexham are expected to be one of their opponents, in San Diego on July 26. The Welsh club, who are owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have confirmed that 'previously publicised' plans are at an advanced stage.

An official statement from Wrexham read: "The Club can confirm that our previously publicised plans to tour the US during pre-season are at an advanced stage, but are not as yet finalised.

"Full details of the games the Club will play in and where, will be released across the Club’s communication channels when they are confirmed.

"We would advise fans against making any arrangements to travel to the games based on speculation, to avoid disappointment."

United are reported to be the second of two Premier League giants, alongside Chelsea to have been invited to face Wrexham, who could be a League Two side by that time as they are chasing promotion this season.

Wrexham have been the subject of huge media attention since Reynolds and McElhenney took over the club in 2021, thanks in part to a Disney+ documentary following their time in charge.
