Manchester United set for sit down transfer meeting over Alvaro Fernandez future

Manchester United and Preston North End will meet at the end of the season and address the future of loanee left wing-back Alvaro Fernandez.

The Spain under-19 international, who turns 20 next Thursday (23 March), has made 33 appearances for the Championship club this season in the first loan spell of the defender's career. Fernandez has been important for Preston this season, displaying his attacking qualities by chipping in with four assists from out wide.

Mere months before the move, the former Real Madrid youngster was named United's U23 Player of the Year and featured in the first-team squad for last season's final four Premier League matches. Preston boss Ryan Lowe has confirmed that the two clubs will meet over Fernandez once the season has concluded.

"We will sit down and have a review with Man United and all of the loan players' (clubs)," Lowe told LancsLivelast weekend.

"We will see what they think, what we think, and then, if there's an opportunity to do something with the loan lads who are with us and doing well, then why wouldn't you? But, it's not always the case."

On the United player, Lowe added: "Alvaro has performed well along with the rest of them."

"He's definitely coming on and getting better. Each game and training session, he is learning. He's self-taught with English, and that's what we need - he needs to listen to make sure he is performing. He's keeping a top international out of the team, at the moment, in Robbie Brady. And he has got to keep those standards high. His performances have been excellent, and long may that continue."
