'Always a dream of mine' - Alvaro Fernandez details Man United ambitions amid loan spell

Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez has admitted it is a "dream" of his to play in the Premier League, with the Spaniard currently out on loan at Preston North End.

Fernandez has played 34 times in all competitions for the Championship side this season, with the Spanish full-back, who turned 20 last week, impressing at Deepdale. He has received praise from several of his teammates this term, while manager Ryan Lowe has also singled out his ability.

The defender - who arrived at Old Trafford from Real Madrid's youth set-up in 2020, was awarded United's Reserve Team Player of the Year prize at the end of 2021/22 campaign. While he is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Reds, he is keen to play for Erik ten Hag's side after making the matchday squad four times under Ralf Rangnick last season.

"It was always a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and Manchester United is a big team in the Premier League and across the world," Fernandez told club media. "It was always a challenge and a dream to play there and that’s why I’m fighting to be there."

Having arrived at the club as a 17-year-old - unable to speak the language - during the Covid-19 pandemic, Fernandez took some time to settle in his new surroundings. However, after living with an English family, he began to learn the language and started to get used to life in and around Manchester.

He added: "At the beginning, when I came here to England, I was in digs with an English family. It was very good from them, that they helped me start to speak English. You always have to learn something new, but now I can speak it better!
