Manchester United sell out of season tickets for 2022/23 despite woeful campaign

Manchester United have already sold out of season tickets for the 2022-23 season.

United finished sixth in the Premier League this season with a goals difference of zero and a lowest points total since 1990, when the team laboured in 13th.

They have lost their last six away games, scoring two goals and conceding 17, yet despite the poor football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, United had the lowest ever rate of non-renewals for season tickets.

The club limit the number of season tickets to just over 50,000 in the 74,000-capacity Old Trafford – England’s biggest club stadium.

Following steep price rises in the 1990s and after the Glazer family took control of the club in a controversial 2005 takeover when ticket prices also rose steeply, they have since been held for 11 consecutive seasons.

United’s support is vast: the team boasted the highest average attendances even when they were relegated to the second division in 1974-75. More than 67,000 watched the recent FA Youth Cup final success – a record for the competition.

For next season, fans also have the option of opting out of the automatic cup scheme – that means they are not obliged to purchase every single ticket for cup games which they may not be able to attend. This came after consultation with fans via the Fans’ Forum and Fans’ Advisory Board.
