Manchester United and Erik ten Hag can sign the perfect £30m partner for Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United need to replace Nemanja Matic. The Serbian midfielder has now left Old Trafford, the club does not have a single defensive midfielder at its disposal and this needs to change to bring Erik ten Hag success next season and beyond.

Scott McTominay moonlighted as a defensive midfielder for much of Ralf Rangnick's spell as interim, but he didn't have the positional nous to succeed in the role. He often left wide spaces for the opposition to run into, leaving his centre-backs exposed, and in possession he did not make himself available for passes, making it hard to build from the back.

So how do United solve the problem? Well it seems that Ten Hag wants to sign two midfielders to both help the team build through the middle of the pitch and also to protect the defence.

Frenkie de Jong appears to be United's top target, with Ten Hag keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford, but the Dutchman would be more effective in possession than out of it. So United may need to target midfielder who is safe on the ball but offers more 'bite'.

Enter Ibrahim Sangare. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a great campaign for PSV Eindhoven this season and according to Sky Sports, both United and Chelsea are now interested in signing the player.

Sangare reportedly has a release clause of £30m (€35m) and it's claimed he has his heart set on a move to the Premier League. Some United fans have even found an old picture of the midfielder where he is wearing the team's zebra-striped third kit from last season on social media.
