Manchester United's Sofyan Amrabat explains why he wanted to play under Erik ten Hag again

New Manchester United signing Sofyan Amrabat has hailed Erik ten Hag’s mentality and believes he will thrive under his former boss.

The Moroccan worked under the Reds manager at FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie between 2015 and 2017 and says he was keen to reunite. Ten Hag was equally eager to bring in the midfield pivot, having held an interest in the player for some time.

United approached Fiorentina in January to enquire about Amrabat, who had enjoyed a successful World Cup, amid a long-term ankle injury to Christian Eriksen but were told no. United instead acquired Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.

But Ten Hag now has his man, again on a loan that has cost United an initial €10 million. The Reds have the option of making his move permanent for the sum of €20m plus €5m in add-ons next summer.

Amrabat has now explained why he himself was itching to join back up with the Dutch taskmaster. "It's fantastic because I think Erik ten Hag is a coach who will push always to the limit," Amrabat told club media. "He's hungry. He wants to win. He's a winner and I like that. I think I'm also similar, I'm also a winner. I want to win every day so it's a good match."

When asked what are his best assets, Amrabat added: "I don't like to speak about myself. I want to show it on the pitch, but I can promise that I will give my best with everything; every day, every minute, every second. So, it is the only thing that I can say now."
