Jonny Evans gives verdict on Manchester United under Erik ten Hag

Jonny Evans is convinced Manchester United are on the right path under Erik ten Hag based on what he has seen during his time back at the club. The 35-year-old returned to United in the summer, eight years after he was sold by the club, and played a key role in their win over Burnley at the weekend.

Evans scored a disallowed goal and set-up Bruno Fernandes' stunning strike with a brilliant pass, as well as shining with a resolute defensive performance as United kept only their second clean sheet of the season.

Speaking after the match, the Northern Ireland international admitted he never expected to find himself back at United and is relishing every moment he has at the club he supports.

“No, definitely not," he admitted when asked if he ever thought he'd get the opportunity again.

“It's not a case of winding down. I think sort of people's career trajectories kind of end up that way, and it's very difficult for a club when you're 35 years old to sort of take a chance on you.

“I had a lot of injury problems last year as well, so for the club to do that and sort of see the value in me, I'm very grateful to be given the opportunity.”

Evans won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his first spell with the club and will hope to add another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet before he retires.
