Manchester United's Shola Shoretire nominated for academy Premier League Player of the Month

Manchester United's Shola Shoretire has been nominated for the Premier League 2's Player of the Month award.

Shoretire played in each of United's U23s' three fixtures throughout February in the Premier League 2 and enjoyed a stellar month, providing three assists and scoring once against West Ham, Crystal Palace and Derby County. The 18-year-old has established himself as a key player in the academy under Neil Wood and made his full United debut last season.

Shoretire made his first-team debut in February last year against Newcastle, before playing against Real Sociedad in the Europa League four days later. That appearance made him the youngest player to appear for the club in European competition.

The academy star was just 17 years and 23 days old when playing in that game, which wrote his name into the club's history. Shoretire has played just once for United's first team this campaign, coming off the bench against BSC Young Boys in the Champions League at Old Trafford in December, but he's enjoyed regular minutes in the academy with a view to his development.

The forward was also instrumental in United's campaign in the UEFA Youth League this season. United's U19's made it to the Round of 16 of that competition, but the Reds' youngsters crashed out at the hands of Borussia Dortmund on penalties last week.

Shoretire started in that match and played over 80 minutes before being substituted off ahead of the penalties.
