Manchester United's James Garner breaks silence on Nottingham Forest transfer

Midfielder James Garner says he will make a decision over his immediate future later this summer amid links with a return to Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old returns to Manchester United in a few week's time having had a whirlwind few days. After winning promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest, Garner has spent the past couple of weeks on international duty with Lee Carsley's England Under-21s side.

Garner has been linked with another loan move to Forest, although that claim has been questioned by the midfielder's agent Steven Beck.

Garner - whose four goals and eight assists in the Championship helped the Reds return to the Premier League - has been so busy on international duty with the Young Lions that he has not even had the opportunity to speak to new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Asked what the future holds following his latest international performance, Garner said: "I've not spoken to EtH yet. From the play-off final I've gone straight to being with England so I've had no rest and no break yet.

"It's been football, football, football. I've not spoken to anyone at the club yet. It's time for a rest now. I'm not too sure what the future holds."

"I'm not too sure, personally. I've not had much time to think in honesty," he added when asked about his own preference.

"I've gone from the Championship play-off final to international football. I've not had a breather or time to think about what I want. I'd like to go on pre-season and impress.

"It's down to me as a player to impress and make a mark. I know how good a style of football Ajax play so it's exciting."
