Manchester United's first five signings under the Glazers as Sir Jim Ratcliffe eyes new era

Manchester United's time spent under the ownership of the Glazer has seen plenty of ups and downs.

After completing their full takeover back in May 2005, United continued to see success over then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but it is the day since the Scot's departure that has continued to see a decline in both on-field fortunes.

United have not won a Premier League title since 2013 and have spent over £1.5billion in player transfers since their greatest-ever manager retired. As protests and angst have continued to boil over in the last few years, INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to finalise the purchase of a minority 25% share in the club.

Player transfers will naturally dominate the headlines after Ratcliffe's arrival and MEN Sport looks back at how the Glazers' first signings fared almost 18 years on...

Hailed as one the club's greatest goalkeepers, Edwin van der Sar joined United from Fulham for a measly fee of just £2m. Having become the first signing under the Glazers, the Dutchman won his first English top-flight title in 2006/07, before helping United to even more success in the following campaign.

United then completed a league and European Cup double as they beat Chelsea in Moscow in the 2008 final, as he saved the final spot-kick in their penalty-shootout victory. In total, the ex-Ajax shot-stopper made 266 appearances and was later described by Sir Alex Ferguson as the best goalkeeper the club had since the departure of Peter Schmeichel.

South Korean Park Ji-Sung became the club's second signing in the Glazer era from PSV for a minimal transfer fee of just £4m. He made a total of 204 appearances and turned out 45 times under Sir Alex during his first season at the club.
