Manchester United's decision on Nemanja Matic vs Atletico Madrid should be simple

Ralf Rangnick had barely had time to familiarise himself with his new surroundings before he'd already spotted a major flaw in Manchester United's problems.

Less than 12 hours after watching United's thrilling 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford back in December from the stands, Rangnick took his seat to address the media for the very first time as interim manager. And it did not take him long to start picking apart some of the problems that had forced United to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"Yesterday's game was exciting for the fans but for myself those are not the kind of games that we need every day because football is to minimise the coincidence factor and have control," Rangnick explained, speaking at his first United press conference. "The major target for me in the next couple of weeks is just to bring more balance into the team.

"Even yesterday, we conceded two goals and needed three goals, in the end, to win the game. If you look at the total number of goals conceded, it is almost two, on average, per game, and this is just too much."

After starting his United tenure with back-to-back wins and clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Norwich City in the Premier League, it appeared as though the 'control' that United needed had finally arrived. However, as the weeks and months have passed by, it has remained glaringly obvious that United need to add fresh blood to the squad this summer to give them that on a regular consistent basis, particularly in defensive-midfield.
