Manchester United reject gives Man City huge title boost after Liverpool heroics

Manchester City's hopes of retaining their Premier League crown were boosted after Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Eberechi Eze's first half winner clinched all three points for the visitors, who arrived on Merseyside having failed to win any of their five previous matches. Withstanding a bombardment of Liverpool pressure in the second half, the Londoners held out to move five points clear of the bottom three.

Though Liverpool were somewhat wasteful in front of goal, with Curtis Jones blazing a golden opportunity wide, goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who joined the club from Manchester United last summer, more than played his part, making five saves in total, the best of which denied Darwin Nunez from point-blank range.

Ahead of Arsenal, who face Aston Villa, kicking-off at 4.30pm, City remain top of the table, two points clear of Jurgen Klopp's side, who have now failed to win each of their last two matches. Liverpool will get the opportunity to move back above City next weekend when they travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.

City are not in Premier League action next week, instead facing Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup. Before that, though, both sides will navigate European ties in midweek, with City hosting Real Madrid in the Champions League and Liverpool travelling to Italy to lock horns with Atalanta in the Europa League.
