Manchester United recruitment plan could lead to unwanted but inevitable attacking departure

How Ruben Amorim's Manchester United side looks on day one of next season will be conditioned by what they achieve in this summer's transfer window, but there's no doubt they could have a very different feel to the team currently taking to the pitch under their head coach.

Maybe that won't be as apparent in defensive areas, beyond adding another wing-back and a potential change in goal, but in forward areas, it feels like change is coming. At the start of next season, the three most attacking players in Amorim's system might all change from recent weeks.

If United complete a deal for Wolves' forward Matheus Cunha then the £62.5million Brazilian will become one of the starting No. 10s for Amorim. He is likely to play alongside Amad, who hasn't featured for two months but was the most eye-catching attacker in the early months of Amorim's reign.

Amad also offers balance as a No. 10, which is why his long-term future is likely to be there rather than at right wing-back. Amorim has expressed his desire to have a left footer in those positions behind the striker. Cunha and Amad would likely operate behind a new No. 9, with Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen as the leading candidates.

But it's the attacking midfield positions that could be the most intriguing under Amorim, with Cunha's addition taking the number of potential candidates for that role to seven, a tally that includes Bruno Fernandes, who could find his future lying permanently in a deep-lying role, as much out of necessity as anything else.
