Manchester United provide Amad injury update ahead of Premier League season

Manchester United have confirmed Amad will miss the beginning of the season with a knee injury.

The Ivory Coast winger limped off against Arsenal on United's tour of the USA. He hasn't featured in any of their pre-season matches since.

The winger posted on Instagram saying he would be 'back soon' and that the injury was 'nothing serious'. Despite that, United are yet to put an official date on his comeback.

Amad will miss United's final pre-season games as well as the Premier League curtain-raiser against Wolves. It could also end any possibility of him heading out on loan before the transfer window closes.

United were keen to watch Amad's progress in pre-season after his exploits at Sunderland before making a final decision. Erik ten Hag will be pressed for an update when he next speaks to the media.

The club statement read: "Unfortunately, he (Amad) has also been ruled out of the first part of the 2023/24 campaign, and we await further details on his estimated recovery date, with the home league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers up first for Erik ten Hag's Reds on Monday 14 August."

Amad scored 13 goals in 27 Championship starts last season, helping the Black Cats reach the play-offs. Tony Mowbray's side were beaten by Luton Town in the semi-finals.

The 21-year-old joined United from Atalanta for £19million in 2021 and has made nine appearances in all competitions for the Reds, scoring once.
