Manchester United preparation for Lyon could be similar to memorable Barcelona win
The Real Sociedad return leg was arguably Manchester United's biggest game since 1990 and tonight's is bigger.
United would have been content with a score draw in Lyon but the manner of Rayan Cherki's 95th-minute equaliser - with the final kick of the game - made a draw feel like a defeat.
As inevitable as Newcastle's victory on Sunday was, it has sapped United of more momentum and deprived them of Joshua Zirkzee. Ruben Amorim has implored supporters to be as involved as possible in this evening's match in his programme notes.
Here are five things to look out for at Old Trafford:
Unchanged again?
United were unchanged for the first time under Amorim in the first leg and it is probable that the same XI will line up again. Matthijs de Ligt and Zirkzee's absences from training on Wednesday have increased that possibility.
It would be bold to give Mason Mount a first start in four months or Kobbie Mainoo a first start in two months in what is United's most important game in decades.
How will Onana fare?
Andre Onana's performance will be scrutinised and so will the reception he receives from the matchgoers. He has tested their patience with his slow restarts in recent weeks but stressed that their audible exasperation does not affect him.
Onana seemed to be affected by Nemanja Matic's comments last week. Matic was the Lyon man of the match without having a kick at the Groupama Stadium.
Will Hojlund score?
It's one goal in 28 games now for Rasmus Hojlund yet, as the only senior striker in this sorry squad, he seems assured of a starting place tonight.
Hojlund has scored the majority of his goals this season in Europe: one in Porto, two against Bodo/Glimt and two against Viktoria Plzen. Hojlund produced his best
