Manchester United preference for Mason Greenwood future revealed ahead of summer transfer window

Manchester United have informed Getafe they desire to sell Mason Greenwood on a permanent transfer if they receive an appropriate offer for the player in the summer window.

Greenwood has spent the season on loan with Getafe after United decided 'it would be most appropriate for him' to continue his career away from Old Trafford.

After a spell away from the pitch, Greenwood has got back up to speed in Spain and he's contributed 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Getafe have been delighted with their loan signing of Greenwood and their manager, Jose Bordalas, has praised the forward in media appearances during the campaign.

Bordalas has indicated Getafe would take Greenwood on loan again next season, but the Spanish club's president claimed on Tuesday that United desire a permanent sale.

Getafe president Angel Torres told Radio MARCA about Greenwood: "If it depended on the boy, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue another year here.

"But Manchester United’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. But I hope he is going to stay."

Torres clarified Getafe hadn't received contact from Atletico Madrid over Greenwood, but he did reveal Barcelona had expressed an interest. He continued: "Atletico has not asked me about Greenwood, I spoke with [Atletico CEO] Miguel Angel about other things.
